About Amy

Amy was born in Hong Kong and was brought up in Los Angeles since the age of 6. She grew up with a creative mind and always knew that she would work in the creative field one day. In 1994, she attended the Otis School of Art and Design in Los Angeles to study fashion. During the four years, she spent one year studying at Parsons School of Design in Paris. During this year in Paris, she interned with local hip japanese designer, Yoneda Katsuko and with Pierre Balmain, one of the many parisian high fashion houses. As the year was coming to an end, she decided to head back to Los Angeles to finish the rest of her studies at Otis. She graduated with the school’s thimble award and the best designer award from kid’s wear designer Cach Cach. Immediately after graduation, she was offered an accessories designer position from Adidas. after three years with them, she relocated to Hong Kong to occupy a senior designer position at Nike Asia Pacific apparel company. She stayed with the company for over three years, designing sport accessories and managing product lines for all of Asia, including Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China. after this time of exhilarating, yet hectic lifestyle, she decided to take some time off and flew over to Thailand for a yoga training.

Practicing ashtanga yoga, she realized what was the lifestyle she really wanted. After returning to Hong Kong with a refreshed mind, she decided she wanted to focus more on the yoga practice; continuing to accept some freelance design, just to keep her creative juice flowing. And the more she focused on ashtanga, the more she fell in love with the practice! After some time, two of her instructors encouraged her to begin teaching. With great support from her teachers and friends, she started assisting and teaching at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong. Later she accepted a teaching job for Pure Yoga, Hong Kong.

She has been enjoying her life since, teaching yoga and working freelance design gigs on the side: drawing cartoons and designing accessories for various companies. In the winter of 2005 she temporarily moved to Mysore, India to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the oldest teacher in the ashtanga yoga lineage. In 2014, she received Authorization Level 2 by Sharath Jois.  She is now in Florida where she continues to develop her passion for teaching yoga and designing. See you around the block!
